Nokia Launches Dual SIM Mobile Phone C1 and C2 In India

Nokia India today unveiled its long awaited 2-in-1 dual SIM (GSM+GSM) mobile phone, Nokia C1 (C1-00) and Nokia C2 (C2-00).

The two new devices, in the Nokia Cseries family, are available at very attractive and affordable price points and will address the consumer need for a Nokia phone boasting multiple sim functionality.

Nokia C1 and Nokia C2 will enable users to take advantage of a rounded feature set including multiple phone book options, long battery life, large screen and local language interface.

Unveiling the new devices, Mary McDowell, Executive Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia said, “As per our deep consumer insights, entry level consumers need dual SIMs for various reasons including economizing time and costs, improving efficiency and for increased convenience. To address these consumer requirements, Nokia has launched these two devices that offer multiple SIM capabilities with a balanced feature set and ‘relevant innovations’ at affordable price points.”

Nokia C1 will be available at an MRP of Rs1999 and will be the first Nokia mobile phone to feature a 2-in-1 SIM solution. Nokia C1 owners will greatly benefit from the ‘call divert’ feature in the new phone, which will ensure that they never miss a call from either of the two SIMs. Moreover, by simply holding down a key, people will be able to switch between the two SIM cards in the phone.

Nokia C1 owners will also benefit from a standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in those parts of the country where access to electricity is sometimes limited. The standard flashlight – often someone’s only means of bright light – is paired with a vivid color screen and FM radio with standard headphone jack, meaning the Nokia C1 is as much about entertainment as it is about convenience.

Nokia C2 comes with Nokia’s innovative services including Ovi Life Tools and Ovi Mail. Nokia’s Ovi Life Tools provides consumers a wide range of information covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment, whereas Ovi Mail offers email accounts for the developing world.

The Nokia C2 also makes listening to music simple with the FM radio and music player and a massive amount of music storage with the phone supporting micro-SD cards of up to 32GB.

Fish With “Hands” Found to Be New Species

New, Pink, and Rare

Using its fins to walk, rather than swim, along the ocean floor in an undated picture, the pink handfish is one of nine newly named species described in a recent scientific review of the handfish family. Only four specimens of the elusive four-inch (ten-centimeter) pink handfish have ever been found, and all of those were collected from areas around the city of Hobart (map), on the Australian island of Tasmania. Though no one has spotted a living pink handfish since 1999, it’s taken till now for scientists to formally identify it as a unique species. The new-species determinations were made based on a number of factors, including number of vertebrae and fin rays, coloration, the presence of scales and spines, and proportional body measurements, according to review author Daniel Gledhill of Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, or CSIRO. All of the world’s 14 known species of handfish are found only in shallow, coastal waters off southeastern Australia, the review notes. Even among the previously known species, the fish are poorly studied, the review authors add, and little is known about their biology or behavior.
